Dancing in the Streets
September 16, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CDT
Dance, one of humanities oldest traditions, is an ancient social practice that began as a celebration or ritual, often called “carnival” which means to Dance in the Streets.
This cultural practice offered a community of people an opportunity to dance together, experience communal joy and bonding. Dance infused communities with regular doses of collective joy and cemented social bonds.
Around the globe, people dance to celebrate, mourn, connect to a higher power and each other. For many societies, the ritual of dance offers a time and place to connect. It is a pillar of strength and the heart of a community.
“We are innately social beings, that instinctively want to share our joy, and through this creativity we can live out a more peaceful future.”
Barbara Ehrenreich, author Dancing in the Streets
